Created in 2024, the indie rock band You Me & Kyle was founded by Tony Sharpe and Henry Hutton. They met in high school at a Star Trek convention (true story) and discovered they also shared a love for rock. "Geeks with guitars" is probably the best description of this duo, who wrote and performed more than 60 original songs with The Executives, one of North Carolina's favorite live, alternative rock bands.
Shelved for a decade, Sharpe's solo project, Accidental Mistakes, recorded at Genuine Music Chicago and released in 2023, changed the way Sharpe approached songwriting and set the stage for They Promised Us There Would Be Flying Cars, the 2024 debut album from You Me & Kyle on indie label Middle Class Productions.
Sharpe's lyrics seem to come out of nowhere, and his powerful, one-of-a-kind guitar style is hard to duplicate. His vocals are raw and unpolished in all the right ways that blend with Hutton's smooth backing vocals. Add Hutton's driving bass lines, toss in a few B minor chords for good measure, and you have the indie alt power pop punk whatever sound that is You Me & Kyle.
A prolific songwriter and totally awesome bassist, Hutton released his first solo album, I'm Not That Guy, in 2024, also on Middle Class Productions.
Tony Sharpe, a North Carolina native, lives in Columbus, OH. Henry Hutton lives in Raleigh, NC.
It's all Sharpe (You), Hutton, (Me) & Kyle (Kyle) in the studio and on the recordings. However, bands do not live on streaming alone.
To recreate the sound of You Me & Kyle for live performances, Hutton & Sharpe rely on the talents of guitarist and tech wizard Rainer Ng of Chapel Hill, and drummer Bill "The Human Metronome" Goodwin. Together, their onstage presence and intensity produce enough energy to power all of North Raleigh.
You Me & Kyle are Bill Goodwin (drums, human metronome), Tony Sharpe (vocals, screams), Henry Hutton (bass, vocals), and Rainer Ng (guitars, guitars, guitars). Not Pictured: Kyle.
